TUCSON - The University of Arizona Wildcat men's and No. 5 women's track and field teams will compete in the Pac-12 Championships combined events this weekend in Los Angeles, Calif. On May 4-5 the Wildcats will compete at USC"s Cromwell Field and Katherine B. Loker Stadium.
On the women's side, junior Amber Passalaqua will compete in her first heptathlon of the 2013 season. At the 2012 Pac-12 Championships, Passalaqua earned All-Pac-12 honors with her eighth-place finish. Her personal-best score of 5,096 came at the Pac-12 Championships. On Saturday, the heptathlon will begin at 12:30 p.m. PDT.
For the men, juniors Keegan Cooke and Steven Scarvelis will represent Arizona. Cooke will look to complete his first decathlon of the 2013 season. His personal-best score of 6,573 came at the 2012 Jim Click Shootout. At the 2012 Pac-12 Championships, Cooke hurt his hamstring during the first event and could not complete the remaining nine.
Scarvelis, in his first year at Arizona, earned a score of 6,431 at the Jim Click Shootout. It was the first decathlon of his career. On Saturday, the competition will begin at 12 p.m.
