University of Arizona men’s tennis coach Tad Berkowitz announced Friday that Arron Spencer has assumed the role of assistant coach.
“It is an honor for me to work alongside and learn from Tad as he has an incredible reputation amongst the coaching community,” Spencer said. “I can't wait to get to work with him and our student-athletes to put the team in the best position we can to take the next step as a program.”
Spencer was previously an assistant coach at the College of Charleston, working with both the men and women’s teams. He saw both teams attain the title of Southern Conference champions in 2012 with the women repeating in 2013.
“I am very excited that Arron has joined our program,” said Berkowitz. “He is extremely competitive and committed to helping our team achieve greatness in the classroom, in the community, as well as on the tennis court. With his experience as a coach as well as a student athlete in the conference he is the perfect fit for our program.”
Prior to coaching, Spencer played at the University of Oregon from 2002-06, a tenure which included a NCAA Tournament appearance in 2004. The once team captain accomplished a No. 9 ITA doubles ranking and left his mark in the Oregon school record books, finishing third all-time in single-season doubles victories and fifth all-time in individual doubles victories.
“While meeting with people in the athletic department, I was amazed with the excitement and the passion that everyone has for this athletic department,” Spencer said. “The atmosphere is very contagious and I was instantly hooked. I am looking forward to my wife and I to get settled in and becoming a part of the Wildcat family.”
