TUCSON The University of Arizona football team continued fall camp in its final practice prior to Saturday’s Meet the Team at Arizona Stadium. The team practiced in shells and shorts at Kindall Field/Sancet Stadium on Friday.

Saturday’s Meet the Team will begin with a practice at Arizona Stadium at 6:00 p.m. followed by an autograph session.

Below are head coach Rich Rodriguez and senior linebacker Jake Fischer’s post-practice thoughts.

Head Coach Rich Rodriguez

On former all-American linebacker Ricky Hunley attending the practice:

“Ricky was in town. He hadn’t seen all the new facilities. It’s good to have him here and have him talk to the team a little bit. I told them, this program was built on a lot of hard-nosed football players for many, many years. That ‘hard edge’, that’s not something we invented, that’s been the culture here for many years. I think Ricky gave the guys a good message. We’ve had so many good players here, but Ricky, if anyone ever watched his highlights, he, Tedy Bruschi and all those guys played with a certain edge about them.”

On practicing with the temperature in the triple digits:

“I actually wanted it to be hotter. We’ve got a little breeze coming through and there are clouds. It just has a tendency to make us soft. Maybe tomorrow night.”

On Saturday’s Meet the Team event:

“We’re going to have more of a practice then a true scrimmage. We’re doing a lot of situational stuff, and we’ll do a lot of that tomorrow night. There will be parts of it that will be live, but not a lot. Normally, during a scrimmage, we go an hour and 15 minutes live, tomorrow, we’ll go 30 minutes live at the most.”

Senior Linebacker Jake Fischer

On Ricky Hunley visiting practice and speaking to the team:

“I’ve heard a lot about him. I know he was one of the hard-working guys that just went out there and did his job every day. His message was that it doesn’t matter how much talent we have as long as we work hard, we can achieve whatever we want. He said we have the talent, and that’s coming from a legend, so if we work hard we’ll be good.”
