TUCSON, Ariz. –Arizona soccer completed its final preseason training session Wednesday morning at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium. The Wildcats head to Miami, Fla. for their first match on Fri., Aug. 23 against Florida International.
Below are assistant coach Kylie Louw and Devyn Hunley’s comments following practice:
Assistant Coach Kylie Louw:
What are your thoughts on the team after the first few practices?
“The girls are definitely starting to implement what we’ve been trying to teach them. I think they’ve taken on to what we believe in and our philosophy. We are confident and we’re looking forward to actually starting the season. We haven’t played against another team so it’s been difficult just playing against each other. We’ll be able to see if the girls are applying what we have been trying to teach them after our first game.”
What would you say is the biggest improvement in terms of the team?
“The overall attitude and energy is different. The girls are really buying into what we know and what we are trying to teach so I think a lot of them are excited and find the trainings fun, which we’ve been trying to bring into it. The biggest change is that they are able to apply what we’ve been teaching them. In the beginning, I think they were unsure of a lot of things but now it’s a different game than what they’re used to. We commend them for taking in a new philosophy.”
Freshman Devyn Hunley:
What do you individually hope to bring to the team?
“My speed. I hope I bring new opportunities to score.”
How do you feel preseason has been going both individually and as a team?
“It’s good; we’ve all been getting along really well in our activities on and off the field.”
What was your first impression of Coach Amato?
“He’s going to organize our team very well. He has a great structure for us.”
