TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona soccer completed practice Wednesday night at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium. The Wildcats continue to prepare for their first home match on Friday, Aug. 30 against UC Riverside and will play Ohio State on Sunday, Sept. 1 in Columbus, Ohio.

Below are head coach Tony Amato and sophomore Hayley Estopare’s thoughts following practice:

Head Coach Tony Amato:

How have you been preparing this week?

“The biggest thing is getting better from last week so we’ve been working on some things that we saw in the game film that we didn’t do a good job in. we built off that and we saw things we would like to improve on. It’s a combination of things but we think the preparation has been good and we’re looking forward to the match on Friday.”

How is the overall energy of the team after the wins this past weekend?
“The energy is great but it’s been great since we started a few weeks ago. We really have made that our foundation. The girls have that energy and enthusiasm and they want to do the right things and try to find ways to win games. When you win games early when you have a new coaching staff and new players, that goes a long way. The energy is great and we’re going to carry that going on into Friday.”

Sophomore Hayley Estopare:

How has your team been preparing for this week’s match?

“We all have been very confident and the main thing we’ve been going over is confidence. We’re playing together and attacking a lot while on defense and offense.”

Do you feel there is a change in energy after the two road wins?

“Totally. We were all amped after that and it gave us so much confidence.”

What do you hope to bring to the team this season?

“I want to give the team what I take from it. I think were all trying to be a team together, nobody is singled out.”

How has your role on the team changed from last season to this season?

“I was defense before but now I’m a center midfielder. I like this position a lot because I get to get in the air and head some balls.”

What are you most looking forward to for the first home match?

“Walking out and hearing the crowd go crazy.”
