TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona women’s golf will open the 2013 season Mon.-Wed., Sept. 9-11, at the Dale McNamara Fall Preview. Hosted by Tulsa, the three-round tournament will be held at Tulsa Country Club (par 70, 6,136 yards) in Tulsa, Okla.
Eighteen holes will be played each day of competition, with fixed tee times on holes one and 10 starting at 8 a.m. CT Monday-Wednesday.
In the most recent rankings, Arizona is listed at No. 14 by the Golf World/NGCA Coaches’ Preseason Poll (Aug. 29) and No. 5 by the Golfweek.com Preseason Poll (Sept. 8).
Along with Arizona (eighth), Alabama (seventh), Arizona State (fifth), Arkansas (tied for 13th), Duke (second), Georgia, North Carolina, Oklahoma (tied for ninth) Oklahoma State (12th), Stanford (tied for 13th), Texas (21st), Tulane (tied for ninth), Tulsa, Vanderbilt (18th) and USC (first) will compete in Tulsa early next week (2013 NCAA finish).
Juniors Shelby Martinek, Kendall Prince and Andrea Vilarasau, sophomore Lindsey Weaver and freshman Jessica Vasilic will compete for the Wildcats this weekend. Martinek, Weaver and Vasilic will be making their Arizona debuts.
Led by fourth-year head coach Laura Ianello and second-year assistant coach Derek Radley, the 2013-14 UA women’s golf squad is comprised of four juniors, one sophomores and two true freshmen. Ianello-led squads have earned top-four finishes at the Pac-12 Championships in the last four seasons, including a win in 2010 and a runner-up finish in 2011.Live scoring can also be found at golfstat.com throughout the tournament.
