The University of Arizona men’s golf team dropped a 4-2 decision to Texas Tech on Sunday in the third-place match at the Carmel Cup to finish in fourth place in its season opener.
Senior Erik Oja delivered the Wildcats’ lone match win of the day, while juniors Dylan Kornberg and Tucker Wadkins each added a half point to the team total. Arizona shot 763 on Saturday to place fourth in the stroke-play portion of the event.
“Losing is always tough, but I was proud of the team’s attitude and effort,” UA head coach Jim Anderson said. “We made too many mistakes and gave some holes away, so we have some questions to answer. The good news is that we have a short week before we get to tee it up again against a full field in Iowa.”The Wildcats will take part in the Golfweek Conference Challenge next Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in Burlington, Iowa. Live scoring for the event will be available at golfstatresults.com, and results will be posted at arizonawildcats.com. For more information on the program, follow @UAWildcatsGolf on Twitter.
