TUCSON, Ariz. – Following a perfect 3-0 weekend and a tournament title at the Arizona Desert Classic, the Arizona volleyball team will hit the road for the first time this year when it heads to Hawaii for the Outriggers Hotels and Resorts Volleyball Challenge. The event, hosted by No. 10 Hawaii, will take place Thursday through Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

Arizona (5-1) will open the tournament on Thursday against Northwestern (4-2) at 8:00 p.m. (MST), followed by a match with Portland State (3-4) on Friday at 8:00 p.m. and concluding against host and No. 10 Hawaii (5-1) on Saturday at 10 p.m.

The Wildcats did not drop a single set on their way to the tournament title over the weekend. Arizona defeated previously unbeaten Butler followed by straight set wins over Eastern Kentucky and Utah Valley. Not only did the Cats take the Arizona Desert Classic title, but Dave Rubio earned his 400th victory as head coach of the Wildcats.

Junior outside hitter Madi Kingdon was named Tournament MVP of the Arizona Desert Classic after averaging 5.50 points, 4.88 kills and 3.25 digs per set. Freshman setter Penina Snuka was named to her second straight all-tournament team, while sophomore middle blocker Olivia Magill was also named to the all-tournament team. Kingdon ranks second in the Pac-12 in points (5.03 p/s), fourth in kills (4.21 p/s) and seventh in service aces (0.42 p/s).

After two weekends of competition, the Wildcats have been one of the best defensive teams in the Pac-12 as their .111 opponent hitting percentage ranks second in the conference. Meanwhile, their 17.10 digs per set rank third in the Pac-12.
