Below are assistant coach Kylie Louw and junior Emily Lai’s comments following practice:
Assistant coach Kylie Louw:
What are the main things you will be working on in practice this week?
“It’s our first home series this week so we’re looking forward to that. It’s important for us to put on a good show and play well so we’re working on our attack and combining in front of the goal. We have switched gears a bit and have been working on defense mainly. We’re going to try to carry the momentum of last weekend through to this weekend. We want the girls to do the best they can and implement what we’ve been teaching them in practice.”
What are you most impressed with from the team for being undefeated?
“These girls work so hard. A coaching change is never easy but they have came out and showed us that they are a team with a lot of heart. We built core values as a coaching staff when we first came in and I think they have followed through with each and every one of those. Last weekend it got a little tough with the weather conditions but they came out with resiliency and heart. They really grind in everything they do and that’s all we really ask of them and they do it every time.”
Junior Emily Lai:
What are the overall emotions of the team after your success this weekend?
“Excitement because we have put in so much hard work and we’re finally getting a reward.”
How has your role changed on the team from last year to this year?
“Being a junior, I have more of a sense of the team and what I want to bring. When I was a freshman and sophomore everything was new to me but this year I’m looking at what I want to get out of my soccer career and what I can bring to the team.”
What differences do you notice from last year to this year?
“The biggest thing I notice is our energy on and off the field, every one is more energetic and excited to be here.”
