The University of Arizona men’s golf team will head to Iowa this weekend, where it will represent the Pac-12 at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, one of the sport’s premier early-season events.

The University of Iowa will host the event from Sunday-Tuesday at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa. The par-72, 7,301-yard track has hosted multiple U.S. Open qualifiers and has been ranked by Golfweek as one of the top courses in the Midwest.

“We feel like the Pac-12 is the most competitive golf conference in the country, and being able to represent the league at the Golfweek Conference Challenge is an honor for our team,” Arizona head coach Jim Anderson said. “We know the importance of representing the Pac-12 well. The plan is to execute our game plan the first two days and give ourselves a chance to win on Tuesday.”

Anderson will employ a lineup that features senior Erik Oja in the No. 1 position. The Sandviken, Sweden, native tied for third last week in the stroke-play portion of the season-opening Carmel Cup, shooting a one-under 71 at Spyglass Hill to post a total of 145 (+1).

Junior Alex McMahon will play No. 2 in Iowa, followed by two players making their season debuts in freshman Bertrand Mommaerts (No. 3) and junior Brenden Redfern (No. 4). Senior Christian Colegrove will make his second-consecutive start in the No. 5 position.

“We’ve mixed up the lineup a bit and we’re going to give a shot to a few guys who didn’t play last week,” Anderson said. “I think they’re ready to take advantage of the opportunity. Based on the qualifying results from this week, I think this lineup gives us the best chance to win in Iowa.”

The Wildcats, who received votes in the Golf World preseason coaches’ poll, will be part of a loaded field in Burlington, as six of the other 14 teams in the field were either ranked or receiving votes in the same poll. UA will square off with 10th-ranked New Mexico, 17th-ranked LSU and No. 23 Oklahoma, in addition to three teams receiving votes in Houston, Iowa and Virginia Tech.

Tee times will start at 7 a.m. MST on Sunday and Monday, and move to 6:30 a.m. MST on Tuesday. Live results will be available via For more information on Arizona men’s golf, follow @UAWildcatsGolf on Twitter.
