TUCSON, Ariz. – Three University of Arizona baseball players were listed as top prospects from their respective summer leagues this week by Baseball America.

Cape Cod League All-Star shortstop Kevin Newman, the league batting champion, was joined by pitcher Mathew Troupe as two of the top 30 players determined by Baseball America. Newman was ranked No. 21 and Troupe checked in No. 29. The outlet also tabbed Alaska League All-Star pitcher Cody Moffett as the 10th-best prospect in his league.

Troupe, now in his junior season, had a strong showing with the Orleans Firebirds, who finished as league runners-up. The right-hander led the league with 11 saves in the regular season and posted a 1.35 earned run average, 32 strikeouts and only seven walks in 20 innings pitched. He racked up 11 strikeouts and a pair of saves in 4.2 innings in the postseason.

Newman, entering his sophomore season, became the first freshman to lead the Cape Cod League in batting. The All-Pac-12 player hit .375 over 40 regular season games for the Falmouth Commodores. Newman was second on his club with 36 runs scored, and he added 18 runs batted in and stole16 bases – fourth-most in the league.

Moffett, also entering his sophomore campaign, led the Alaska Goldpanners to a league championship. The lefty posted a 2-0 record and four saves in 11 games on the mound. He compiled a 0.76 earned run average with 35 strikeouts against five walks in 35.1 regular season innings. In the postseason, Moffett did not allow a run in 7.2 innings and had eight strikeouts.

Fellow sophomore pitcher Nathan Bannister also starred for the Goldpanners. A right-hander, Bannister notched a 6-0 record and a 2.25 earned run average to go with 36 strikeouts and only four walks over 52 innings pitched.

Arizona will begin official fall practices on Monday, Oct. 7.
