TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona women’s soccer moved to 4-1-3 on the season after picking up a 6-1 win over Southern Utah and a 2-0 loss against No. 24 Texas Tech while hosting the Arizona Cats Classic this weekend.
In Friday’s match against Southern Utah, senior Ana-Maria Montoya scored the first goal for the Wildcats in the fifth minute. Senior Jazmin Ponce recorded her fourth goal of the season off a penalty kick and her second penalty kick goal of the year. Sophomore Kaitlyn Lopez recorded two goals for the Wildcats to put them up 4-0 going in to halftime. Sophomore Alexa Montgomery and junior Candace Edwards picked up their first goals of the season to add to the six-goal total.
In a 2-0 loss against No. 24 Texas Tech, junior Alexandra Doller led the Wildcats in shots with five followed by freshman Lexe Selman with three. Goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman recorded one save of the three shots she faced.
In the Pac-12, Arizona is in first place in goals (19) and second place for shots (140). Ponce is in third place in the shots category with a total of 31. Freshman Jaden DeGracie is tied for third place in assists with four. Goalkeeper Kaufman ranks in third place in saves with 29.
Up next, Arizona will host Hawaii on Fri., Sept. 20 at Muphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium to wrap up the non-conference slate. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
