TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona women’s soccer (4-1-3) will host Hawaii in their final non-conference match on Fri. Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. The game will be held at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.
Last Time Out: At last weekend’s home tournament, Arizona matched up against Southern Utah and No. 24 Texas in the annual Arizona Cats Classic. In a 6-1 victory against Southern Utah, Kaitlyn Lopez, Ana-Maria Montoya, Jazmin Ponce, Candace Edwards and Alexa Montgomery scored goals to contribute to the six-goal total. In the 2-0 loss to No. 24 Texas Tech, Arizona outshot the Red Raiders, 16-8, with Alexandra Doller leading the team with five shots.
About the Rainbow Warriors: Last weekend, Hawaii (3-3) played host to Idaho State and Portland State for the Outrigger Hotels and Resort Soccer Classic. The Rainbow Warriors picked up a 4-1 win against Idaho State followed by a 2-0 loss to Portland State. Junior Tiana Fujimoto leads the team in goals with four and freshman Kama Pascua leads the team in shots with 15.
Wildcats Ranked in the Pac: Among the Pac-12, Arizona is in first place in goals (19) and second place for shots (140). Ponce is No. 3 in the shots category with a total of 31. Freshman Jaden DeGracie is tied for third place in assists with four. Goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman ranks in third place in saves with 29.
New to the Roster: Of the 13 freshmen and one transfer on the 2013 roster, eight newcomers have playing time under their belts. Freshmen Justene Kesterson and Haley Silverberg have both scored goals for the Wildcats. Junior transfer Alexandra Doller is tied with Ponce for the most goals scored with four. Freshman Jaden DeGracie leads Arizona in assists with four and is also tied for third place in the Pac-12. Freshman Lexe Selman has participated in all eight games registering a total of 13 shots, including six on goal.
Up Next: The Wildcats will begin Pac-12 play on Sun. Sept., 29, hosting UCLA. Match time is set for 2 p.m. and the contest will air on Pac-12 Networks.
