TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona women’s soccer moved to 5-1-3 on the season after picking up a 4-1 victory over Hawaii Friday night to wrap up non-conference matches.
After competing against nine non-conference schools, Arizona came out with a winning record, dropping only one match. The Wildcats’ loss was to No. 24 Texas Tech in a 2-0 battle in the Arizona Cats Classic. The three ties were double overtime draws against No. 24 Ohio State, Kansas and Illinois. The five victories were against Florida International, Florida Atlantic, UC Riverside, Southern Utah and Hawaii.
Senior Jazmin Ponce leads the Wildcats in shots (38) and goals (six), including three game-winning goals. Rankins No. 2 on the squad is junior transfer Alexandra Doller who has recorded 21 shots and four goals with one game-winning score. Seven freshmen have playing time under their belts. Freshmen Haley Silverberg and Justene Kesterson have both recorded goals for the Wildcats.
Junior goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman has recorded a total of 35 saves and held three teams scoreless, Florida Atlantic, UC Riverside and No. 24 Ohio State. Back-up goalkeeper Alison Gondosch participated in two matches, recording one save and one goalie assist.
Season tickets for the 2013 campaign are still available with at a rate of $50, including admission for all nine home games. Discounts on season tickets are available for any Arizona faculty/staff, active military, seniors (55+) and youth. Groups with 15 or more can purchase group tickets for $4 per ticket.
