Soccer Set for Pac-12 Road Matches

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona women’s soccer will travel to California to take on No. 2 Stanford on Fri., Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. and California on Sun., Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. The match vs. Stanford will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.

Last Time Out: The Wildcats dropped their first Pac-12 match to No. 11 UCLA, 2-1, on Sunday, Sept. 29. In the loss, sophomore Hannah Wong scored Arizona’s lone goal off a pass from senior Jazmin Ponce. The Bruins outshot the Wildcats, 18-8, with Ponce leading the team with two shots. Junior goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman tied her season high of seven saves in the loss.

 About the Cardinal: Last weekend, No. 2 Stanford (8-0-1) traveled to Colorado and picked up a 2-0 victory against the Buffs. In the win, Courtney Verloo and Taylor Uhl scored goals for the Cardinal in the second half. Uhl leads the team in goals with nine and Verloo is right behind her with six. Freshman goalkeeper Jane Campbell recorded two saves in the match to add to her 16-save total on the season.

About the Golden Bears: Last weekend, California (7-0-3) traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah and San Francisco, Calif. to take on Utah and San Francisco. The Golden Bears took the Utes to a 0-0 double overtime draw and picked up a 3-0 victory against San Francisco. California ranks fifth in the Pac-12 as they are one of three teams to remain unbeaten this season.

Wildcats Leading the Pac: Among the Pac-12, Arizona is tied with Stanford in the goals category with 24. Ponce is in third place in the Pac-12 with 40 shots, averaging four per game. Kaufman is tied for second place in the Pac-12 for saves with 43.

New to the Roster: Of the 13 freshmen and one transfer on the 2013 roster, eight newcomers have playing time under their belts. Junior transfer Alexandra Doller ranks second on the Wildcat roster in goals with four. Freshmen Justene Kesterson and Haley Silverberg have both scored goals for the Wildcats. Freshman Lexe Selman has recorded a total of 16 shots, seven on goal. Jaden DeGracie has a total of nine shots and five assists.

Stats Among the Cats: Senior Jazmin Ponce leads the team in shots with 40, including 16 on goal. Junior transfer Alexandra Doller has totaled 21 shots, including 12 on goal. Freshman Jaden DeGracie leads the Cats in assist with five with Ponce’s four ranking second on the team. Sophomores Wong and Kaitlyn Lopez both have three goals and 13 shots with six on goal. Goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman has 42 saves with a .824 save average.

Up Next: The Wildcats are back on the road to Oregon to take on Oregon State on Fri., Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. and Oregon on Sun., Oct. 13 at noon. The match vs. Oregon State will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
