Wildcats Go 1-1 in Pac-12 Road Play

TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona women’s soccer moves to 6-4-3 after picking up a 2-0 victory over Oregon State and dropping a 1-0 decision to Oregon in Pac-12 road play. 

Senior Jazmin Ponce leads the team in shots with 56, including 25 on goal. Right behind her is junior transfer Alexandra Doller who has 26 shots and 13 on goal. Freshman Jaden DeGracie leads the Cats in assist with five and Ponce has four. Sophomores Hannah Wong and Kaitlyn Lopez have three goals each in the 13 games played. Freshmen Haley Silverberg and Justene Kesterson each have goals under their belts. Freshman Lexe Selman has a total of 17 shots, including seven on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman has recorded a total of 56 saves while recording a .812 save percentage. After shutting out Oregon State, Kaufman has held four teams scoreless including Florida Atlantic, UC Riverside and No. 24 Ohio State. Back-up goalkeeper Alison Gondosch has participated in two matches, recording one save and one goalie assist.

Among the Pac-12, Arizona is tied for first place with California in the goals category with 28 and ranked No. 4 in total shots with 226. Goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman leads the Pac-12 in saves with 64. Ponce is tied for first place for game-winning goals with four and ranked No. 2 in shots with 58.

The Arizona defense has held 13 opponents scoreless for a total of 1,027 minutes, including four shutouts against non-conference opponents Florida Atlantic, UC Riverside, No. 24 Ohio State and Pac-12 opponent Oregon State. Five matches have been decided by a single goal (Florida Atlantic, No. 11 UCLA, No. 2 Stanford, California and Oregon).

The Wildcat’s won their first conference match, 2-0, at Oregon State Friday night.  In the win, Ponce recorded her eighth goal of the season and led the team in shots with seven, including four on goal. Junior transfer Alexandra Doller scored the second and final goal in the 83rd minute for the Cats. The Wildcats outshot the Beavers, 16-7.

On Sunday, Arizona lost a 1-0 decision to Oregon with Doller leading the team in shots with four. Oregon freshman Shay Miner recorded the Ducks game-winning goal in the 60th minute crediting the assist to Reilley Moore. Oregon outshot Arizona, 19-14, with Bri Pugh leading the Ducks with four, including one on goal. Goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman recorded a season-high eight saves.

Up next, the Cats continue on the road to California to take on USC on Fri., Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. The match will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
