TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona soccer completed practice Wednesday night at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium. The Wildcats travel to California to take on USC Fri. Oct.18 at 3 p.m. The match will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
Below are assistant coach Paul Nagy and junior Candice Osei-Agyemang’s comments following practice:
Assistant Coach Paul Nagy:
On advantages or disadvantages of playing on the road:
“It’s great to have the team together and we don’t have any distractions. When you’re at home the players have class or other responsibilities that can be distracting. We’re able to focus on one specific thing which is winning the game.”
On focus of practice this week:
“To get back to the basics of defending. We scout our opponents so we go into each game with a different game plan week to week. Each team plays different so we attack each team based on their strong points.”
Senior Jazmin Ponce:
On thoughts of team so far this season?
“I think we are miles better than we were last year. We have gone in with a better attitude and we’re trying to capitalize on every game. The confidence we have has help on the field from the technical standpoint as well. We’re nearing our final matches of the season but our success has shown that we’re possible contenders.”
On what team needs to improve most on:
“Capitalizing on our opportunities. There’s plenty of times in our previous matches where one missed chance really changed the game.”
On change of role on team from last year to this year:
“It’s pretty much the same but as a forward, coach Amato wants everybody to defend and take more chances.”
