A slugging first baseman, he earned first-team All- American honors in 1980 as the Wildcats won their first-ever Pacific-10 Conference Championship and captured their second College World Series title. He hit 14 homeruns each in 1979 and 1980 and had a career batting average of .332 with 117 runs batted in. Made all Pac-10 Southern Division All-Star Team and College World Series All-Tournament Team in 1980. Ranked second highest in Arizona history with a .632 career slugging percentage and first in season putouts with 583. Drafted by the professional Houston Astros organization after the 1980 season.
