TUCSON, Ariz. University of Arizona junior running back Ka’Deem Carey is the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday. He is Arizona’s third conference weekly award winner this season.

The reigning national rushing champ carried the ball a school-record 40 times for 236 yards and a game-clinching touchdown as Arizona knocked off Utah, 35-24, on Saturday evening at Arizona Stadium. Carey set the tone early with a 30-yard gain on his first carry of the game and then finished in style with a 44-yard touchdown burst on his final touch with 90 seconds remaining to put the Utes away.

Carey’s 236 rushing yards rank as his second-highest career tally and the third-highest in Arizona single-game history.  He became only the sixth player in program history to rush for 3,000 career yards and now ranks No. 5 all-time in school history with 3,159. He topped the 200-yard mark for the third time in his career (second time vs. Utah) and surpassed 100 yards for the 15th time (ninth-straight), which is tied with Art Luppino for second-most in school history.

Despite playing in only five games to date, Carey has 805 rushing yards on 134 carries with six touchdowns this season. He currently leads all FBS running backs with 161.0 rushing yards per game. He also leads and is just one of two FBS players to average over 100 rushing yards per game in his career (108.9).

Junior safety Tra’Mayne Bondurant was the Defensive Player of the Week for his two-interception effort against Northern Arizona (Aug. 30). Senior kicker Jake Smith collected the Special Teams Player of the Week honor after setting a school record with 16 points, including 3-of-4 field goals, in a win at UNLV (Sept. 7).

The Wildcats will play the first of back-to-back road games next weekend when they venture to Colorado for a 5 p.m. MST tilt with the Buffaloes. Pac-12 Networks will have the television coverage with Glenn Parker, Roxy Bernstein and Drea Avent, and Brian Jeffries, Lamont Lovett and Dana Cooper will have the call on the Arizona IMG Sports Network.
