TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona women’s soccer forward Jazmin Ponce is the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference on Tuesday.
In Arizona’s final conference road match of the season, Ponce scored two goals in the 3-2 overtime victory at USC. Ponce recorded her first goal of the match off a penalty kick in the 77th minute to help give the Cats a 2-0 advantage. The Trojans countered the two goals with eight minutes remaining in the match to send it in to overtime. Five minutes in to the first period of overtime, Ponce fired the game-winning goal off a free kick outside the USC goal.
On the season, Ponce has five game-winning goals and also leads the team in goals with 10 and shots with 62, including 30 on goal. Ponce is ranked No.1 in the Pac-12 for game-winning goals with five, second in the conference for shots with 62 and tied for second place in the conference in goals with 10.
In the Pac-12, Arizona leads the conference in goals with 31 and goals per game, averaging two goals each contest. In the shots category, the Wildcats are ranked No. 5 with 236.
The Wildcats return home to match up with Washington State on Fri., Oct. 25, at 2 p.m., and Washington on Sun., Oct. 27, at noon. Both matches will be played at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium. The match vs. Washington State will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
