TUCSON – Arizona softball defeated Scottsdale Community College, 12-0, in the final game of the Fall Round Robin on Sunday afternoon at Rita Hillenbrand Stadium.
For the third consecutive game in the Fall Round Robin, Arizona’s offense produced at least 10 runs. Chelsea Suitos and Courtney Rodriguez led the Cats in RBIs with three each. Rodriguez’s three RBIs came from a three-run home run in the fourth inning. Lauren Young and Chelsea Goodacre also hit home runs in the 12-run route.
Suitos, along with Hallie Wilson, led the Cats in hits with three, while Young and Courtney Rodriguez also had multi-hit days.
The Fighting Artichokes were only able to record one hit off of Arizona’s pitching.
Starting in the circle for the Wildcats, Kenzie Fowler struck out six batters in four innings, allowing no runs and one hit. Nancy Bowling replaced Fowler in the fifth. Bowling completed two innings, striking out three and did not allow a run, hit or walk.
Arizona opened things up in the bottom second, scoring five runs. Katiyana Mauga and Lauren Young led the inning off by reaching on base. Courtney Rodriguez singled in both Mauga and Young, giving Arizona the 2-0 lead. After Alex Lavine singled, Hallie Wilson also singled bringing Rodriguez home to make the lead 3-0. Chelsea Suitos’ base hit brought in two more runs, stretching Arizona’s lead to five.
Young tacked on another run to Arizona’s lead when she lined a pitch over the left-center wall for a solo home run.
Arizona took an 11-0 lead in the bottom fourth. Suitos singled in a run to give Arizona its seventh run of the day, and with two on, Kelsey Rodriguez drove a pitch past the left field wall, giving Arizona a 10-0 lead. Chelsea Goodacre gave Arizona back-to-back home runs as she followed Rodriguez with a home run to right field.
Arizona went on to add another run to make it 12-0, and Bowling’s 1-2-3 sixth inning sealed the win and gave the Cats its third win of the Fall Round Robin.
The Wildcats will host their annual alumni game on Sunday, Nov. 10 inside Rita Hillenbrand Stadium at 12 p.m. PDT.
