George Genung HOF
     A three-sport Letterwinner in basketball (1942-1947), baseball (1942-1943, 1946-1947), and swimming (1946). He was selected as male athlete of the year in 1943, and was captain of the 1943 Basketball Border Conference Co- Championship Team. Member of the 1946 and 1947 Border Conference Championship Teams, leading them to the 1946 National Invitational Tournament, UA's first postseason appearance. He led the Border Conference in scoring in 1946, and was a second-team All- Border Conference selection. He was the captain of the 1946 baseball team, playing in 1942-1943 and again in 1946-1947 after serving in World II, and was a 1946 swimming letterman. A Dean's list student and extremely active on campus, he was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Scabbard & Blade, Bobcats senior Men's Honorary, and was selected for the 1947 Who's Who In American Colleges and Universities. At Amphitheater High School in Tucson, he taught for thirty- five years and coached basketball for thirty years. He recieved the Arizona Daily Star Outstanding Achievement Awar in 1976, and in 1992 Amphit high school's gymnasium was named in his honor. He has been inducted into numerous Halls of Fame including, the Arizona Basketball Hall of Fame (1965), the Southren Arizona Softball and Baseball Hall of Fame (1978), the Amphi Sports Hall of Fame (1985), the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame (1992), and the Arizona High School Coaches Hall of Fame (1995).
