Arizona's first consensus All-American, earning that honor in 1982 and 1983 at inside linebacker. Established an Arizona record with 566 total tackles and was a three-time All-Pacific 10 Conference selection. Was a finalist for the Lombardi Award and led the Pac-10 in interceptions in 1983 when he was selected Pac-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Was selected to play in the Blue-Gray, Hula Bowl and Japan Bowl all-star games. Was drafted in the first round by the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League (the 7th overall pick) and played with the Denver Broncos (appearing in two Super Bowls) and the Phoenix Cardinals. At time of induction was vice president of National Football League Players Association.
