Arizona women’s tennis will add Canadian recruit Devin Chypyha to the 2014-2015 roster. Finishing up her senior year of high school, Chypyha narrowed down her options and signed a National Letter of Intent to play at the University of Arizona starting in the fall of 2014.
“We’re thrilled to have Devin join the Wildcats.” Coach Vicky Maes said. “She is the kind of person we truly appreciate on our team: hardworking, passionate, smart, and driven. She is a very mature young woman and, since we are losing four seniors at the end of this year, it’s important to bring in individuals who will step up right away.”
Chypyha appeared at the Costa Rica Rice Bowl and also made two appearances at the UTSA International Spring Championships in her 2012-2013 career.
“I have known Devin and her family for a few years now and she has a solid base for college tennis,” Maes said. “Her desire to develop her game will turn her into a strong competitor for the team for sure.”
Chypyha has made several appearances in different ITF tournaments all over the world within her tennis career.
“I knew right away that this was it; this was where I wanted to play tennis.” Chypyha said. “I am so thankful that Coach Maes and Coach Dargene have given me this privilege and opportunity. I know that at the University of Arizona I can reach my potential and really improve as an athlete and a student.”
Chypyha will join a roster that currently includes one junior, two sophomores and two freshmen.
