     Outstanding all-around athlete as an undergraduate and Arizona's first major league baseball player. Lettered in football 1929, 1930 and 1931, basketball  1931, and baseball 1930. Was in major league for 10 years (1933-42) with the New York Giants and the Chicago Cubs. Had a lifetime batting average of .288, in 813 games. Played in All-Star game 1938, 39 and 40.
