Harry Messick was a member of some of The University of Arizona’s greatest baseball teams. When Coach Sancet reloaded his team for 1956, he went to California and came up with Harry, who filled two-time All-American Russ Gragg’s shoes. In 1956, Harry’s batting average was .345 and he led the team in triples (11) and home runs (7). That year, the Wildcats went to Omaha for the World Series and lost in the finals to Minnesota. In 1957, Harry had a batting average of .356 and led the team in triples (6). In 1958, the Wildcats went back to Omaha behind the slugging of Harry who had a .305 batting average and again led the team in triples (8) and home runs (7).
