TUCSON, Ariz. – Jade Turner, a 6-4 middle blocker from Bakersfield, Calif., has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for the University of Arizona, head coach Dave Rubio announced on Thursday.

“Jade is a tremendous athlete with an unusually long wing span of seven feet,” Rubio said. We look forward to her continuing the recent tradition we have established with athletes of elite size and length such as McKenzie Jacobson.”

A Foothill High School product, Turner finished her high school career with 395 kills, 393 blocks and 67 service aces in 230 career sets. As a senior, she averaged 2.50 kills per set, 1.90 blocks per set and 0.50 service aces per set, while hitting a solid .290.

She accumulated 114 kills, 142 blocks and 23 service aces during her junior year on her way to earning First-Team Southeast Yosemite League honors. In addition, she named honorable mention all-area by the Bakersfield Californian.

In 2011, Turner was named Second-Team Southeast Yosemite League after recording 76 kills to go along with 86 blocks as a sophomore.

Turner plays with the One Volleyball Club in Bakersfield under head coach Kim Harper.

“She has an unbelievable willingness to execute and has that desire to improve her skills,” Rubio added. “She has a history at Arizona as her dad played basketball here and we are just extremely excited for her to join our program.”

Turner is the daughter of former Arizona men’s basketball alum Joe Turner. Turner played for the Wildcats from 1984-88 and was a member of the 1987-88 Final Four team.
