Albert Sye came to the University of Arizona as a junior college transfer after competing for Gloucester County College in New Jersey. While at GCC, he earned All-America honors with his second place finishes in the Junior College Nationals. The first All-American athlete in the history of GCC, he was the school's wrestling MVP in 1970-1971. While at Arizona, Albert started his two years, compiling a 58-9 record. He won the Western Athletic Conference Championships in 1972 and 1973 and never once had a point scored against him in WAC championship competition. He was also a two time NCAA All-American and was ranked as high as third in the nation in 1973. Albert was a member of the USA Wrestling Team when they competed against the Mongolian World team in 1975. He has been inducted into the Gloucester County Sports Hall of Fame, the National Junior College Wrestling Hall of Fame and the Gloucester County College of Fame. Albert is also the Founder and Past President of the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame, here in Tucson.
