TUCSON, Ariz. – Members of the Arizona football program earned degrees as part of the University’s December 22 commencement ceremonies.
Senior linebacker Jake Fischer earned his degree in marketing. A three-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree, he’s also twice been named CoSIDA Academic All-District. On the season, he ranks No. 2 on team in total tackles with 85, including two for a loss of three yards. He also recovered one fumble for six return yards vs. UTSA and returned an interception for a 49-yard touchdown run at UNLV.
Senior defensive lineman Tevin Hood earned his degree in the study of the American experience. An All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention honoree, a Pac-12 Second-Team All-Academic selection and earning 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, he started 11 and played in 12 games at nose tackle. He’s second among the defensive linemen in total tackles with 73, including 7.5 tackles for a loss of 25 yards. Hood has one sack for a loss of five yards to his credit and forced fumbles vs. UCLA and at UNLV.
Senior offensive lineman Chris Putton earned his degree in economy and industry. He played in 12 and started 11 games at right guard. He plays with an offensive line that allows UA to average 24 first downs per game, 452.6 yards of total offense per game and score 32.8 points per game. He’s also a member of the offensive line that allowed quarterback B.J. Denker to throw for 14 touchdowns and run for 12 scores while running back Ka’Deem Carey set the Arizona school record for career rushing yards with 4,070 and 17 touchdowns.
Senior cornerback Shane Wilson earned his degree in sociology. He played in all 12 games as a significant special teams contributor. He has six total tackles on the season and was the Arizona coaches’ Player of the Week for the NAU game.
Senior cornerback Justin Samuels earned his second undergraduate degree in psychology. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in business management in May 2013. Former player and current student coach Jack Baucus earned his undergraduate degree in religious studies.
Arizona will face Boston College, on Dec. 31, in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl, in Shreveport, La. The game will air on ESPN and will kick at 10:30 a.m. MT.
