Taylor Johnson holds a BA in English from George Washing University and an MFA in Creative Writing and Poetry from the University of Arizona. Ms. Johnson is an English teacher at Desert View High School with classes at freshman, senior and AP levels in Literature and Language. To motivate her students, Ms. Johnson uses a modified form of the Lincoln-Douglas debate process to promote critical thinking, research skills and collaboration as well as the AVID-style Socratic Seminars to encourage interactive student learning. In 2008 she collaborated with the UA to connect her classes with the Wildcat Writers Service Learning Project and this year she was awarded the UA Service Learning Award for her work with the Wildcat Writers program.
In keeping with the current technology emphasis in the district, Taylor uses social media to stay connected with her students and has a Tumblr page with updates on class assignments. Google Docs, edmodo, blogs, wikis, Facebook, Twitter and cell phones are other mediums she uses with students to complete research projects and submit assignments. Mr. Johnson is actively involved in the community through her work on Tucson Poetry Festival, the Tucson Youth Poetry Slam and is a Wildcat Writers Advisory Board Member.
