Ashley Tappin HOF
Ashley transferred to the U of A in 1994 as a three time U.S. Junior National Champion, a veteran of Team USA in the Pan American Games and the World Swimming Championships, and a gold medalist as part of the U.S. 400 medley relay team at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. Ashley finished first in both the 50 yard and the 200 yard freestyle at the 1995 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships becoming the first Wildcat in history to win those events. She also finished 2nd in the 100 yard freestyle and helped both the 200 yard and 400 yard freestyle relay teams to All America finishes. At the 1996 NCAA Championships, she medaled and scored in two individual events and three relays. In the 1997 NCAA meet, she captured three individual medals and four All American relay finishes, including a second consecutive NCAA title in the 200 yard freestyle. Ashley left the U of A swimming program in 1997 with a bushel of National Championships, school records, and All American rankings, and with the UA Women's team a permanent fixture in the elite echelon of intercollegiate swimming.
