Arizona freshman Lauren Marker was named Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Marker has tallied a 12-1 singles record at the No. 3, 4 and 5 spots so far this season for a significant contribution to Arizona’s 14-1 team record.
“Lauren Marker has been instrumental in our success this year,” Arizona head coach Vicky Maes said. “She has been very consistent in her play, both in singles and in doubles. She loves the game and is always looking for ways to improve.”
Marker posted two singles victories and three doubles victories with senior Kim Stubbe as the Wildcats swept the weekend with wins over No. 40 Purdue, No. 50 Washington State and Oregon.
In singles play, the Rancho, Mirage, Calif. native recorded straight-set wins over Oregon’s Sofia Hager and Purdue’s Nicole Robinson.
“Her commitment to getting better every day is paying off,” Maes said. “I’m excited the conference has chosen to recognize her this week.”
Marker and Stubbe continued their undefeated doubles streak with three victories last week, posting scores of 8-3, 8-3 and 8-2 against Oregon, Washington State and Purdue, respectively.
Marker’s honor marks Arizona’s second in three weeks, as Stubbe was named Pac-12 Player of the Week on March 11.
Arizona will continue Pac-12 play this weekend versus No. 4 Stanford and No. 16 California on the road.
