TUCSON, Ariz. – After earning a victory last night, the Arizona sand volleyball team of Madi Kingdon and Jane Croson two matches to advance to the finals of the Grand Canyon Sand Tournament on Saturday in Phoenix.

Kingdon and Croson opened up play this morning by defeating teammates Madison and McKenna Witt, 21-12, 21-17 to advance to the semifinals. Kingdon/Croson followed the victory over the twins with another straight set victory in the semifinals as they knocked off Brenna Lyles and Alicia Ostrander of Nebraska, 21-15, 21-15.

The Wildcat duo advanced to the finals to face the home team of Kelli Dallmann and Mackenzie Phelps, where it turned out to be a quite a three-set contest. Kingdon and Croson opened things up with a tough 22-20 victory in the opening set before Dallmann and Phelps bounced back to even things up with a quick 21-12 victory in set two. Dallmann and Phelps rode the momentum to a 15-7 victory in the third set to win the title. It was the second time this season that Dallmann/Phelps defeated Kingdon/Croson as they won in straight sets back on March 8.

Meanwhile, Emily Kiser and Allie Cook earned a victory in the consolation bracket as they knocked off Kaylee Dombroski and Brooke Razo of Grand Canyon, 21-17, 21-17.

Arizona will be back in action on Friday, April 4 as the Wildcats travel to Irvine, Calif. for contests against Irvine Valley College and No. 5 Long Beach State.
