TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona men's golf concluded the Redhawk Invitational with a ninth-place finish. Held at Chambers Bay (par 70, 7,348 yards) in University Place, Wash., competition took place Mon.-Tues., April 7-8.
"Our team really struggled today. The weather conditions were pretty tame although the course was set up longer and more difficult. We finished the round very poorly, which is something we have not struggled with most of the spring. We know we need to be mentally and physically tough, especially when things aren't going well."
No. 15 UCLA won the team title with a score of 835 (-9). No. 17 Washington earned the runner-up finish with a838 (-4). No. 29 Arizona State rounded out the top-three with a 847 (+3).
Arizona finished ninth with a score of 876 (+32) and round of 285, 291 and 300. The Cats finished ahead of nine teams.
Senior Erik Oja was once again Arizona's top finisher. He earned a tie for 12th place finish with rounds of 68, 70, 73 for a combined score of 211 (+3). Oja adds two more rounds at or below par, making his season total to 19 rounds at or below par.
"Erik did a great job individually this week with another strong finish. The consistency he demonstrates is very impressive. Now, we hope he brings his best game to the postseason."
Junior Alex McMahon finished for a seven-way tie for 42nd place. He carded rounds of 75, 68 and 78 for a total of 221 (+10). Sophomore Kolton Lapa shot a 74 on the day to add to his earlier rounds of 72 and 78 bringing his total to 224 (+13). Behind him, Benson Liu shot a total of 225 (+14) with rounds of 74, 75 and 76. Parker Houston remained in 70th place with a score of 228 (+17) after shooting 71, 80 and 77.
Next up, the Wildcats will host the Pac-12 Championships beginning on April 25 in Tucson, Ariz. at The Gallery Golf Club.
