Happy Monday Wildcat fans!
The Sand Cats were on the road this weekend playing in beautiful Hermosa Beach for the USA Volleyball Invitational Tournament. We played against some great competition and had some close matches.
Saturday we played against Pepperdine, Hawaii, and Cal State Bakersfield in the team competition. All three teams had some really great players and we were unable to clinch any of the matches. On the bright side, I love playing against top-level teams because it helps me realize that I still have so much more to learn. Transitioning from indoor volleyball to sand volleyball is harder than you would think, but the learning process is what makes it fun. I can tell that with each week of practice everyone’s sand game continues to improve, so the future is bright for the Sand Cat team.
On Sunday we competed in the pairs competition. For this, each of our teams is put into a bracket and can play anyone. Ronni and I played against USC and Santa Clara while our other teams played different opponents. Everyone played really well getting both wins and losses. All around this tournament was a great learning experience for all of us. We had the chance to compete against teams that have been doing this a little longer than we have. It is reassuring to see that with more experience and practice our team will thrive.
On a side note I just want to give special thanks to all of our parents that continually come out and support us. We appreciate the continued encouragement and enthusiastic cheering at every tournament!
Next weekend your Sand Cats head back to California to play in the Pac-12 Invitational in Santa Monica. I am so excited to see how we match up against the other schools in our conference.
Until next Monday, BEARDOWN!
