Arizona women’s basketball has signed two more players for the 2014-15 season, the program announced on Tuesday.
The Wildcats will welcome transfers Malena Washington and Lauren Evans in addition to the five newcomers that signed in November of 2013.
Washington, a 5-7 guard from Tyler Junior College, averaged 13.7 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 4.7 apg and 2.0 spg. She shot 47 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc.
“Malena will make an offensive impact for us,” Arizona head coach Niya Butts said. “Offensively, there isn’t much she isn’t capable of. She is a great scorer, mid-range shooter and passer.”
The Long Beach, Calif. native will be eligible to play immediately.
Evans, a 6-0 transfer from Virginia Tech, started in 28 games in her freshman season, averaging 4.7 ppg and 2.1 rpg.
“Lauren is an Arizona kid and we always want to get the best in the state,” Butts said. “Having her at Arizona certainly allows us to do that. The opportunity to bring her back home will be great for her and for our program. She will be a great addition for us, on and off the court.”
The Chandler, Ariz. native will sit out a year before becoming eligible in 2015-16.
Washington and Evans will join Arizona’s top-25 recruiting class, consisting of Paris Junior College transfer Chy Cunningham and freshmen JaLea Bennett, Taryn Griffey, Cherice Harris and Charise Holloway.
