TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team will have two individual competitors begin play at the NCAA San Antonio Regional, hosted at Briggs Ranch Golf Club (par 72, 7,247 yards) on Thurs., May 15.
The tournament will run from Thurs. May 15 through Sat., May 17. One round of 18 holes will be played each day with a start time of 8 a.m. CT.
Senior and Palmer Cup selection Erik Oja was the No. 1 seed in in the individual race for San Antonio. Oja will be joined by junior and Oro Valley local, Alex McMahon, who was the No. 5 seed.
"I am hoping we have our players finish 1-2 this week," head coach Jim Anderson said. "Making NCAA's via individual play is almost more difficult than having a team qualify. I am happy both Alex and Erik will have the experience of playing in this NCAA Regional."
The regional will be hosted by UTSA with 13 teams in the field and 10 individuals. The top finisher in the individual race will move on to the championship tournament along with the five low teams.
With two qualifiers this year, the preparation for Oja and McMahon has been different.
"Each have had a busy week of finals, which are finishing up now," Anderson said. "We have talked about Briggs Ranch and what they can expect. They have had some time alone to prepare and Alex used last week's US Open Qualifying as a tune up as well. We are looking forward to getting the routine of travel back and having a good practice round on Wednesday."
