TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona women’s gymnastics team was recognized by the NCAA for its academic excellence, released the one-year and four-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores on Wednesday.

Arizona gymnastics scored a perfect 1,000 in 2012-13, the most recent scoring period. The team has earned the perfect score since the 2010-11 period. The Wildcats have also received a four-year APR score of 1,000.

“Congratulations to Coach Ryden and the Women’s Gymnastics program on receiving a perfect score of 1,000 from the NCAA on their APR,” Associate Athletics Director of Academic Services Wesley Maas said. “The pursuit of excellence for the student-athletes on the gymnastics team reaches farther than that of just competition.”

“They have continued to show perfection in the classroom and with the NCAA APR as well,” Maas added. “Their hard work and dedication while working with Britney Clarke and Kelly Amsler in CATS Academics are truly superior and they deserve to be recognized for their efforts.”

Each year, the NCAA tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on NCAA Division I teams through an annual academic achievement scorecard. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation while measuring an entire team’s academic performance. The APR includes both an annual report and a four-year average.

“I’m proud of what that number means,” Head Coach Bill Ryden said. “In our program, we are very concerned about athletic success, but we are more concerned about the future of our student-athletes and where they will go. The athletes have made this commitment that they will achieve their degrees in a road to better their future. It’s a great compliment to them and their hard work and our academic and support staff.”
