Parings set for first round of Palmer Cup

Walton-On-The-Hill, EnglandFirst round foursomes pairings for the 2014 Palmer Cup at Walton Heath Golf Club were announced at today’s opening ceremony by tournament chairman Jim Awtrey. The first match of the Ryder Cup-style competition between collegiate golfers will tee off at 7:30 a.m. local time. 

The European tandem of Ricardo Gouveia and former UA senior Erik Oja are set to be the third match of the day, teeing off at 7:58 a.m. against American duo, Rico Hoey and Jack Maguire.

This will be the 18th annual tournament between European and American college/university players. The players are selected by the two teams based on their nationality and not the location of their university. The Palmer Cup will take place, June 26-28. The UnitedState leads the all-time Palmer Cup series, 9-7-1.  

Oja a Sandviken, Sweden, native earned All-America honors this past week as an honorable mention.
