Swimming Continues Solid Showing in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas - The Wildcats picked up right where they left off yesterday on day two of the Texas Invitational. The Wildcats took five first place finishes to bring the total to 11 on the week. Also another four individuals qualified for the NCAA Championships.

Kevin Cordes had the fastest time in the morning prelim for the 100 breast and he qualified for the NCAA Championships with a time of 50.83.

Mitchell Friedemann also qualified for the NCAA Championships in the morning prelims with a time of 45.52 in the 100 back.

The relays continued to have another strong showing with the men winning the 200 medley relay. The team of Michael Sheppard, Kevin Steel, Andrew Porter, and Brian Stevens posted a time of 1:25.40.

Michael Meyer picked up another win in the 400 IM that qualified him for another NCAA Championship. He posted a time of 3:41.73. Mitchell Friedemann took first in the 100 back final with a time of 46.01.

Kevin Cordes and Kevin Steel took first and second in the 100 breast final heat. Cordes set a new American Record bettering his time from the morning to 50.70.

Bonnie Brandon also tabbed another win taking first in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.89 which will take her to the NCAA Championships as well.

The Wildcats will return to the pool to for the final day of the Invite on Friday. Prelims will begin at 10 a.m. CT and finals at 6 p.m. CT.
