Wildcats Have Strong Day Two at Pac-12s

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona swimming and diving team earned a relay title along with three individual second-place finishes on day two of the Pac-12 Championships on Thursday inside Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.

The Wildcats wrapped up an already strong day with a title in the 200 free relay as Bonnie Brandon, Margo Geer, Alana Pazevic and Grace Finnegan swam an incredible 1:27.76 to hold off USC (1:28.03) and Stanford (1:28.07).

Brandon and Geer also had strong performances in individual competition as they each earned a second-place finish. Brandon placed second in the 500 free with a time of 4:38.45 finishing just behind Missy Franklin of Cal. Meanwhile, Geer placed second in the 50 free with a time of 21.90, just behind Kasey Carlson of USC (21.74).

The first day of the diving competition was also strong for the Wildcats as freshman Michal Bower earned a second-place finish in the 1-meter with a score of 322.75 as she finished just behind Stephanie Phipps of Stanford, who scored 332.25. On the men's side, sophomore Rafael Quintero earned a third-place finish in the 3-meter with a total score of 419.00. Riley Mccormick of Arizona State won the title followed by Kristian Ipsen of Stanford.

Pazevic and Finnegan also had strong individual performances as Pazevic won the "B" final in the 50 free with a time of 22.49 as Finnegan finished just two spots behind her in 22.68. Freshman Tjasa Oder also earned a third-place finish in the "B" final of the 500 free with a time of 4:43.16.

The Wildcats sit in fifth-place in the team standings with 320.5 points. Stanford (507) holds the team lead followed by USC (448), Cal (400.5) and UCLA (328.5).

The Pac-12 Championships will continue tomorrow with the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back.
