Wildcats Solid on Day Three at Pac-12s

TUCSON, Ariz. The Arizona swimming and diving teams had another strong showing as the Wildcats wrapped up day three at the Pac-12 Championships inside Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.

The Wildcats got off to a good start to the night as freshman Tjasa Oder earned a fifth-place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:13.15, which was more than two seconds faster than her preliminary time.

In the next event of the evening, senior Ashley Evans matched Oder with a fifth-place finish in the 100 fly. Evans clocked in with a time of 52.28.

Bonnie Brandon topped the “B” final in the 200 free with a time of 1:44.30. The time was the fourth fastest of the 24 finalists in the event. Grace Finnegan also swam in the “B” final as she earned a seventh place finish in 1:47.92.

The most impressive swim of the day may have come from senior Eve Sarris as she earned a third-place finish in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.37. The time was a new personal best for Sarris in that event. Meanwhile, teammate Emma Schoettmer finished just two spots back in fifth-place with a time of 1:00.69. Freshman Sara Borendame finished third in the “B” final of the event.

In the diving portion of the night, Rafael Quintero took second in the 1-meter championship with 481.65 points. On the women’s side, freshman Michal Bower earned a fifth-place finish in the 3-meter event with 326.65 points.

Arizona closed out the evening with a third-place finish in the 400 medley relay as Brandon, Sarris, Evans and Margo Geer finished with a time of 3:32.21.

The Wildcats remain in fifth-place in the team standings with 614.5 and are just five points from UCLA for fourth.

Tomorrow’s final day of action will feature the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 1650 free and the 400 free relay. Platform diving will also be featured on day four.
