The award, in its inaugural season, will be given to the nation’s top freshman.
The San Diego native leads the Pac-12 and is fifth nationally with a .934 slugging percentage. Her 18 homers rank second (to Chelsea Goodacre) in the Pac-12 and seventh in the country. Mauga is batting .385 with 52 RBI, the third most on the team. In addition to her 18 homers, the freshman has 11 doubles and a triple while drawing 28 walks to put up a .506 on-base percentage.
Mauga is one of two Pac-12 players on the list.
The top three finalists will be selected and released on Thurs., May 22. The inaugural NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year trophy will be presented during a live ceremony on May 27 prior to the opening of the annual Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla.
