Head coach Vicky Maes and the Arizona women’s tennis team will host the 2013 Wildcat Invitational at El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Resort beginning Friday, Oct. 11 and continuing through Sunday, Oct. 13.
Competition will begin at 9 a.m. each day.
“We look forward to the opportunity to play an individual event at home,” Maes said. “This is a first for our program and we certainly expect our girls to perform well. We have been working hard on the court and I’m eager to see the newbies in action.”
The Wildcats will host Northern Arizona, New Mexico State, Cal State Northridge, UTEP, Iowa State and UTSA in a multiple-bracket event, featuring both singles and doubles.
The tournament will kick off on Friday with one round of doubles, followed by two rounds of singles. Saturday will include two rounds of singles and one round of doubles and Sunday will determine the championship with one round of singles and one round of doubles.
“I see this event as an opportunity to see where we are physically and mentally after five weeks of practice,” Maes said. “While there are more improvements to make, I have been impressed with the progress I have seen in singles play so far.”
All players on the roster will compete, with the exception of seniors Lacey Smyth and Kim Stubbe.
The event is free of charge.
