TUCSON, AZ- In honor of our seniors, each day for this week leading up to their final regular season match we will have a Q&A with each of them.
Susan Mc Rann
Q. When did you fall in love with the sport of tennis?
A. I started at 8, but was kind of reluctant. My parents say I didn’t really want to play, but then I got into it and started playing tournaments and hitting with my sister and fell in love with it.
Q. What would be an example of a day in your life as a young girl?
A. Primary school – 12 – I would eat a bowl rice krispies for breakfast, call my friends house then we would walk to school together. Sometimes we played in the yard before school. After school, I rushed home and my mom took me to tennis and sometimes I also had swimming practice. Other times after school my sisters and I would stop by the Garage Shop and get orange slushies.
Q. What was your first impression of Head Coach Vicky Maes?
A. She was intense and very team focused, I liked that about her. I met her in the airport at international orientation. She was cracking jokes and being funny off the court. On the court was serious and down to business.
Q. What does your ideal opponent play like?
A. A little like me—giving the ball some pace, but not over hitting. I like to come to the net.
Q. Who is your favorite team to play during the season?
A. ASU – its’ gotta be—rival, last match, senior days, and the stands are full, those are always the best.
Q. Do you have any siblings?
A. 2 sisters Julie and Gemma, both older and both live in London.
Q. What is your greatest accomplishment as a tennis player so far?
A. Getting a scholarship at UA in the states.
Q. What is your favorite memory on the team so far?
A. My soph year against ASU – senior day and we rolled them, 7-0.
Q. What is your favorite Disney movie?
Q. If you could have a theme song, what would it be?
A. Don’t stop believing by Journey, our recruiting video had that song on it and it stuck with me.
Q. If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
A. Australia for a few months. For a holiday I would love to visit Fiji or see more of the states like New York or Boston.
