Three Wildcats Named Top Prospects by Baseball America

TUCSON, Ariz. – Baseball America has recognized three Arizona baseball players as top-50 prospects in their respective classes, including freshman Bobby Dalbec, sophomore Kevin Newman and senior James Farris

Dalbec, a corner infielder and right-handed pitcher from Parker, Colo., is rated as the 43rd-best prospect in the freshman class. As a senior at Legend High School last spring, Dalbec hit .390 with nine home runs and was named to the All-Colorado baseball team by the Denver Post.

Newman is ranked as the 27th-overall prospect in the sophomore class. As a freshman, Newman hit .336, scored 40 runs and collected 42 runs batted in, while committing just six errors in 55 games. He was named All-Pac-12 and was honored as a freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball.

Farris, a 15th-round draft choice by the Houston Astros, returns for his senior campaign as the 14th-best prospect in his class. The Gilbert, Ariz., native went 5-5 with a 4.18 earned run average and 73 strikeouts over 99.0 innings pitched last season.

Arizona opens its season on Friday, Feb. 14, to start a three-game series against Kent State. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. (MST). The Golden Flashes participated in the 2012 College World Series, when Arizona captured its fourth national championship.
