Brian Jeffries
Position: Director of Broadcasting & Voice of the Wildcats

Phone: (520) 626-7660

Email: brian@arizona.edu

As the play-by-play voice of University of Arizona football, basketball and baseball, Brian has traveled the country and for that matter the world covering UA athletics. Since 1986 the Wildcats have played various sports in 37 states, the District of Columbia and Japan. Brian has been there for all of them from National Championships in baseball and basketball to bowl games to great games from coast-to-coast.

Brian's radio career started in Yakima, Washington in 1975 where he was a rock and roll disc jockey and sports reporter covering high school football, basketball and American Legion baseball. Aside from radio Brian and several friends operated Mobile Music, staging dances in high schools across Central Washington. Mobile Music also promoted concerts including one of the first U.S. appearances by Heart.

In 1977 Brian moved on to Boise, Idaho where he again worked as a radio disc jockey and sports play-by-play announcer covering high school and small college football and basketball. While no longer promoting concerts Brian and his friends learned how to sneak back stage and meet famous people like Carole King. During a donkey basketball game Brian was tossed to the floor at the Boise State University arena prompting an end to his equestrian career.

In 1980 Brian moved to Tucson to join KMGX radio. He was the sideline reporter for UA football games and served as the pre game host for UA basketball games. Later he added baseball play-by-play duties and was the analyst for basketball games in 1985 and 1986. In the Fall of 1987 Brian took over as the play-by-play voice of the Cats. Since then he's called over 1500 Wildcat games. The UA celebrated Brian's 20th Anniversary as Voice of the Wildcats at halftime of a home basketball game in February 2007.

In the Fall of 2008 Brian joined the IMG team on a full-time basis as Director of Broadcasting. He oversees all aspects of the on-air broadcasts including the 11 announcers and 4 support people who keep the Wildcats on the air in both English and Spanish.

Along with his play-by-play duties Brian is the host of the radio and television show for both the head football and basketball coach and emcees many of the UA athletic events. He's a member of the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame and has worked with Media Fellowship and other groups both in Tucson and nationally. Jeffries was honored by the Tucson Advertising Federation in Spring 2008 with the Golden Mic Award for his exceptional contributions to the media industry including involvement in charitable non-profit programs and community organizations. Brian is married to Melissa (Arizona '86), and Dad to his daughter Mckenzie (Arizona '18) and son Brody (Arizona '21).
