Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller

On performance from defense:
"This early in the season, we're after perfection. I thought there were moments when our defense was excellent. Then there were times when it wasn't as good. Chico St. handled the ball well and they had a number of very good players. It was a great test for our team. There are mistakes from this game that we can learn from. This was a good team win. Chico St. and Humboldt St. are going to have great seasons. We need to take advantage of our size and depth. With our team this year, there may be different players on different nights that have big games. For us, we have to stay a total team from start to finish. Our size, our depth, and our versatility should be our greatest strengths."

On Mark Lyons and Solomon Hill performance:
"Mark scored 1,500 points before he showed up here. Scoring is something that comes easy for him but this is a transition. He is still learning about our program. I am confident that as the season goes on and each passing game he is going to continue to develop and become more comfortable. The one thing he was disappointed in was that he had two or three turnovers in the first half. He did control the ball much better in the second half. I thought he and Solomon [Hill] together did a really good job. It was good to see him play. Solomon is still learning to play with two front court players. For his first three years here, he usually just had one. I like that he is letting the game come back to him."

On shooting against Chico St.:
"One of the things we talked about at halftime was about taking too many shots. To win against some of the best teams in our conference, we need to have balance, throw the ball inside and throw to multiple players. We are asking those guys to play defense, and to play screens so that each of the guys are able to score inside."

On the challenge presented by Chico St.:
"We knew Chico State, having watched them play Pacific, were good with having many of their players return. They did a very good job. Our win was a function of the good things we did. We have the fire power. We have the depth to contribute to the season."

On preparation for Sunday's game vs. Charleston Southern:
"It's been a long offseason with a lot of hard work. I shouldn't call it offseason because it's been a road of preparation. We have a head start because of our trip to the Bahamas."

Arizona Player Quotes

Senior Guard Solomon Hill

On this year's exhibition games vs. last year's
"It's a very different feeling. Last year the exhibition games were competitive all the way to the very end. It feels good to get the guys going and beat a team by that type of margin in both games. It builds confidence going into the first game on Sunday and we look forward to it."

On his performance
"I just let it come to me. I was more relaxed, I think I cut down on turnovers. I pushed the ball more. I'm slowly getting closer to where Coach [Miller] wants me. We're playing faster, I was able to rebound the ball early on and get our guards involved."

On scoring mostly off free throws
"It was kind of like a Derrick Williams feel out there, shooting free throws and having like five field goals at the end of the night. There are games like that where this will happen. The ball pressure was there, they tried to hit on screens. It may not be like that next game. I have to get more offensive rebounds. We had a chance to rebound better. Kevin [Parrom] was able to do that in the second half. He got a lot of offensive rebounds, and got to the free throw line because of it. So next game I'm going to try to get to the free throw line not because of their fouling but because of my offensive rebounding."

On Mark Lyons
"He gives us confidence at the point guard. We don't have to worry about him, he's a grown man. He's going to show up every night. It starts in practice for him and he comes out and executes in the game. That's one position we don't have to worry about. It makes the job easier. The way you've seen him play in the last few games: he's out in transition, he's talking to guys. It feels like he's been around for a few years. I have confidence in him, and so does the rest of the team."

On take-away points from exhibition games
"The first game we gave up the three point shot, this game the rebounding is something we have to look at. Different teams will give you different matchups and different opportunities to do different things. Today our guard were heavy with the ball, our screen game was good, and our bigs were out of it. Like coach says, you don't want to throw the ball all game in football, you want to give the running back some touches too. We need to work on getting our post players more touches in the key. Every time Kaleb touched it he was making a play or getting a foul."

On depth
"It makes the team better. It reminds me of my sophomore year. It makes competition in practice great. It feels good knowing that when our starting five comes out, we're just as good. There is no dropoff. If we're all in, we can reap the rewards from it. It's not about individual performance anymore. We have guys that can score, and highly recruited freshmen. It's about the team."

Senior Guard Kevin Parrom

On veterans guiding younger players
"We've been guiding them since the summer time. These guys are very mature, so we've been guiding them as best as we can. They do a good job, and it shows up on the court."

On anxiousness to start season
"I'm trying to be a part of greatness, like Coach says. I'm focused on this year trying to win a national championship. I'm just trying to be a leader along with Solomon and Mark, and just trying to hang up a banner in McKale."

On practice
"I've been practicing a lot better. Mentally I've been up and down. I have to be consistent, both in practice and in the games. Solomon has been really consistent in practice. We guard each other in practice and try to make each other better. I'm just trying to be a better practice player, and I feel like that will make me better in the games."
