Arizona head coach Sean Miller

On Arizona's 27 turnovers:
"There are two stories to tonight's game. If you turn over the ball 27 times, it's almost impossible to win. The fact that we did that at home is not good. It wasn't just one player, but it was an entire team. To have those turnovers and to win is a completely different story. The focus for me after the game is that you're going play about 35 games and not all of them are going to be fair. Once in a while you have foul trouble, sometimes you struggle offensively and try to fight to get out of it. We had those moments. Those are moments we hope to learn and grow from them and still win. To me, that is the most gratifying thing about tonight."

On more playing time for team veterans:

"Everyone focuses on our freshman and our new talent. We love those guys and they've already shown us what they do, but when you play against a zone can like Southern Mississippi - not to mention the physicality on the glass at the other end - we went with our oldest, most experienced players. The gift isn't just our size and talent; it's a lot of different players whom have been through a lot."

On starting Kevin Parrom in the second half:

"As our team was struggling [Parrom] was definitely needed early in the half. He's the best on the team with feeling comfortable in the zone. From a defensive perspective it also gave us a better match-up. It was definitely the older guys that carried us tonight."

On the performance of Solomon Hill:

"A year ago, they were daring Solomon Hill to shoot. There were a couple of guys that played their man in the middle of the lane and he was still able to shoot. If we wanted to make 10 three-point shots, he could. His hard work throughout his career and in particular this summer paid off; when he shot that ball in front of the bench I think that was the best shot of the game. I knew it was going in."

Arizona Player Quotes

Sophomore guard Nick Johnson

On why tonight was tough:
"Their zone threw us off for the first half. I wouldn't say we weren't prepared for it; it was a different kind of zone. We came in the second half and settled down a little bit but still had a lot of turnovers."

On making key baskets:
"The overloading a side really opened the court up. It was trying different things and seeing what worked for us that allowed those key baskets."

On closeness of game:
"I'm happy to have had a close game. I know we have veteran leadership but our freshmen haven't been in close games. We pulled this one out, but we also got the experience factor of this game. We're using this to go into our next games and learning from our experiences."

Senior guard Kevin Parrom

On physicality of game:
"This game proved how tough we are. We have a lot of talented freshmen, but they were a great team. They gave us problems early on, but we figured it out and got in the zone. It was a tough game, but I'm glad we pulled through and got the win."

On turnovers:
"The kind of zone they played was to speed us up, and they did a good job of that. In the first half they were pressing us, and we panicked. We wanted to go into the second half and take care of the ball. I don't think since I've been here and we have had 27 turnovers, so I know Coach Miller will be on us for that."

On halftime speech:
"He basically looked at the seniors and asked if we wanted to play hard or lose to Southern Mississippi. He wasn't yelling at us because we all knew what we had to do. I've been in McKale for four years so I've been in those situations before and I knew what we had to do."

Freshman center Kaleb Tarczewski

On size advantage:
"We hadn't played a zone like that before. It seemed like they were in a matchup zone, doubling the post. In the second half we learned what we had to do and moved the ball to get in to the post."

On quick fouls:
"It was tough in the first half. I didn't come out as well as I had hoped to. I knew that in the second half I didn't rebound as well as I wanted to and I can improve on that."
