TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona freshman forward Aaron Gordon was named to the Wayman Tisdale Award midseason watch list on Friday in an announcement by the United States Basketball Writers Association.
Gordon is the lone Pac-12 representative on the nine-player list that denotes the frontrunners for National Freshman of the Year honors, and one of six players on the list who is also a candidate for National Player of the Year accolades.
Gordon leads both Arizona and Pac-12 freshmen with an average of 7.6 rebounds per game, while ranking second on the UA roster at 12.4 points per outing. He has posted a team-high five double-doubles on the year and is shooting 50.5 percent from the floor.
The San Jose, Calif., native was recently named USA Basketball 2013 Male Athlete of the Year in recognition of his efforts at the FIBA U19 World Championship that resulted in a gold medal for the U.S. squad and individual tournament Most Valuable Player accolades. Gordon was named to the NIT Season Tip-Off All-Tournament in November and is a member of both the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 and the Oscar Robertson Trophy midseason watch list.
The award will be presented on April 14 at the Devon Energy College Basketball Awards in Oklahoma City.
